Can't go wrong with cobalt

Today's underused item is this grey blouse with a swan print from Forever 21. Like the booties, I love this shirt, but seem to never wear it. I'll scan through my closet and come upon it, but then move away. I think part of the problem is it's lack of structure. Unless you wear a belt with it, it tends to look rather boxy.

For this I decided to pair it with one of my favorite colors, cobalt and add gold accessories.

Notice the creepy alleyway photography. Yep, that's how I roll.

I'm back!

Underused Booties

This is the first post in my underused items series. Today the focus on these grey H&M booties. These are perhaps the most comfortable pair of wedges that I own. They are a very low wedge and completely rubber soled. While I love them, I find that I rarely wear them. Another problem is that they seem very, very wintry.

Maybe I can find a way to wear them in the summer. We will see...

Underused items

I love this dress! It makes me think of summer and warm weather. I actually purchased it from H&M in Prague (wow, that sounds really hoity-toity), but it definitely showed up in the stores in the states. It came with a bright orange belt that only seems to work with sandals. I've often struggled with how to style this dress in the winter and I think it works with these boots and some sheer stockings to fight the cold/rainy/snowy Seattle weather.
These boots are also one of my major struggles. I like them a lot, but I rarely wear them. They are super comfortable, but somehow I can never find the right outfit for them.

This actually makes me think that I need to do a week where I try to style pieces that I rarely wear. Maybe even look to online postings, Polyvore, Chictopia and print ads for inspiration. Yes, I will do that! Mmm I'm loving this theme dressing, it makes my daily "what to wear today" time in front of my closet a lot shorter.

Gospel Sunday Brunch

Today I went to a gospel Sunday brunch...at a night club that also has a Prince vs. Michael Jackson party (you know you wanna go!).

One of the Seattle food trucks, Where ya at Matt, has these events every few months in Seattle. He caters with his amazing creole food and has music, usually gospel-inspired, come to play. While has has been around more than a year, I've never actually eaten as his truck. After eating my delicious meal, I'll definitely look for him!

Oh my gosh, the hush puppies, the cheesy grits, the mimosas and the best part, the beignets! All was so scrumptious and amazing. I definitely went back for seconds and considered thirds.

So first some food porn... then the outfit.

(Featuring: biscuits and gravy, hush puppies, fried catfish, cheesy grits, eggs benny, potatoes, awesome scrambled eggs and two slices of honeydew and a raspberry, which I regret getting because they took up room hush puppies could have occupied.)

Today I wanted to keep it casual. There was a threat of rain and snow, but it ended up being a beautiful day, at least in Fremont! Thank you to my bud, Callie R. for taking my pictures with her fancy-spancy camera. She is fabulous!

Oscars Sunday!

It has been a busy, busy weekend! Well, it really hasn't been busy exactly, but I have spent most of my weekend recouping from my first skiing attempt and eating a lot of great food. (I needed to regain my strength, right!). I am lucky enough to live just 40 minutes from the Summit at Snoqualmie. With one of my best buds, I took a 1.5 hr lesson and tried going down the easiest slope once.

Yes, once. Why you ask, 1.) skiing is hard!! No one tells you how scary it can be to throw yourself down a slick hill with things the size of toothpicks and no poles. Yes, see when you are learning to ski you do it without poles. In hindsight, I should have grabbed some before trying to go down the slope. 2.) it started to snow, a lot. Since I was driving and I don't have a 4wd car, we headed out in time to make it over the pass before the snow really hit.

Overall it was a great day!  Don't get me wrong, as I threw myself to the ground to avoid skiing too fast, I was laughing the entire time (smile). I didn't break any bones and only a few muscles are sore. I see that as a great first try and I'll definitely go back again!

Don't I look so stylish! One of my goals before I go again is to find a fun ski outfit. I'm thinking something very 80s ala "Better Off Dead."

Bit of sunshine in the rain

Today was a surprisingly sunny day in normally rainy Seattle. While one of my new school friends thinks I'm crazy for wearing flats in the winter, today it was very necessary. It was almost warm! Not quite time for sandals, but I can almost see the end of the winter months. That being said, the weather peeps say we'll get snow this weekend. Just in time for my first skiing or snowboarding attempt! Since my outfit that day will be a black ski overall (tre chic), I may not have a post, but I will take many pictures of me falling and possibly snowboarding for your delight.
